Sunday is usually the day where we relax and take a moment to breath. It seems like the least busiest day of the week (in most cases anyways). I think for a lot of people the month of December is just go, go, go. With the holiday’s and end of the year approaching, people are scrambling to find the perfect gift or planning some kind of outrageous event to cox their friends into joining. Hence, the abundance of ugly Christmas sweater parties (which we all know is a yearly tradition now). But we forget that we need to stop, take some deep breaths, and pause for minute. Give yourself a day to catch up on all the time lost in translation and enjoy a little R&R.
Today is going to be a list of songs which I think everyone can relish in on a cozy Sunday afternoon/evening. These songs are made to make everyone happy and mellow one’s chaotic soul. I like to think of these songs as “recharge anthems.” So, get your music players out (or whatever you use to gather musical agents) and prepare yourself for some awe-inspiring melodies to hit your earbuds! (I will also link all the songs in case you want to take a listen first before purchasing.)
1. Shelter-Porter Robinson & Madeon
Shelter came out a month ago now and I AM STILL ON THE HYPE TRAIN! This song has almost 9.8 million views on YouTube and for good reason at that. I recommend that you watch the music video for this song before you buy the track. Porter Robinson is a highly popular EDM DJ, who mixes his love for Japanese animation with his music. Shelter’s 6 minute music video will take you on a “feels trip” like you have never felt before. The gorgeous animation along with its upbeat melody is everything you could ever want in a electronic dance music track. I have recommended this song to everyone I know. (I think some of my friends may be getting sick of me talking about it. BUT IT’S JUST SOOO GOOD!)
2. A Million Reasons-Lady Gaga
The Queen of Monster’s has done it again with her new album Joanne. A lot of critics have been harsh towards this new album release, but I have to say I quite like this album that she has created. It’s nice to see something a bit different from her usual pop/electro/main stream sound. It really goes to show you that she can be versatile and stay true to her home roots. If you are having some trouble with your love life (quite like myself), then check out A Million Reasons. It’s quite soothing, yet powerful and makes you feel a bit better about yourself (if only brief moment).
3. Robbers-The 1975
I am recently new to The 1975. These guys have been around since 2002 (more or less they have been playing together since they were teenagers). I’ve only listened to a few of their songs so far, but I quite like their indie rock vibe. I love bands that sound different from one another (it gets my blood pumping when I find unique bands). I am currently obsessed with Robbers by them. The song is kind of sultry with a splash of mystery involved. It’s like you want the song to continuously play without ever ending. Don’t believe me? Then check it out for yourself!
4. Make Me Cry-Noah Cyrus feat. Labrinth
Miley Cyrus’ younger sister sings?! Yes! Your ears are not deceiving you my pack! Noah finally released her first track AND IT IS EVERYTHING! A lot of fans are suggesting that she sounds like her older sissy but I think she sounds like Noah…and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You can hear the influence of Miley in her voice, but you can also tell her voice is much lighter. Miley has a deeper vibrato and it is sometimes raspy, where as Noah’s voice is much softer and airy, almost mystical. You have to listen to the song a couple of times in order to fully understand this concept. Oh, just watch the music video already. 😛
5. Send Them Off! (Bunker Sessions)-Bastille
Bastille’s new album Wild World has my vote for album of the year. This whole album is PURE GOLD. If you haven’t heard of Bastille then I feel so sad for you. I came upon these guys a few years ago when their first album, Bad Blood, was released. I HAVE BEEN A DIE HARD FAN SINCE THEN! Their song, Send Them Off!, is a wicked masterpiece that everyone needs to listen to. I urge you to just buy this whole album RIGHT NOW! Yes, just dive into the deep end and do it! You will not regret it. From beginning to end, Wild World will rock your socks off. I recommend you buy the album from Target because you get a few extra songs with purchase. I adore the bunker session of Send Them Off! You can listen down below.
That is a wrap for this week’s Songs to play on Sunday. What are some of your current song obsessions? Do you have an kick ass music videos I should check out right now? If you do don’t forget to leave them in the comment section below. I could always use some new music to add to my playlist. I will catch you later my pack!
