Sappy Saturday

The last two days have been emotionally rough on me, hence why no post for two days. I’m sorry guys! Sometimes I just need a break from everything. I’ve been listening to a lot of music to help me cope with my problems. I highly suggest going and checking out Labrinth. He is such a talented fellow with lots and lots of amazing songs. I am very partial to the song Beneath Your Beautiful. It hit me right in the “feels” yesterday. I even cried a little bit while I was driving around for work. Yeah…I’m a crybaby. (Please don’t tell anyone! Just kidding! Everyone who is close to me knows I’m a fountain of tears).

Today I thought I would mull over things that are close to my heart. Maybe books, movies, songs, random objects, etc etc. I am sure you get the point. I mean, I did title this post Sappy Saturday. Sappy usually means silly or foolish, but I consider sappy to be more heartfelt with a touch of goofiness/giddiness. You know, stuff that kind of makes your heart melt into a puddle of nothingness. Stuff that makes your heart twitterpated. We will consider these things favorite things for now 🙂

 1. How Far Would You Have Gotten If I Hadn’t Called You Back? by Valerie Hobbs

how-farI’ll start off with a book that is near and dear to me. How Far Would You Have Gotten If I Hadn’t Called You Back? is a book that I read in my sophomore year of high school. Just like Judy Blume’s Forever, it opened me up to relationships and first sexual experiences. It was a coming of age story that I think most everyone should read. It changed my views and perspectives on how to connect with people, how to find yourself, and how to deal with emotional grief. (I won’t give away too much, in case anyone does decide to read this). I’ll leave you guys with the book summary and link to purchase!

Book summary:
“When 16-yr-old Bronwyn Lewis’s family uproots itself and moves across the country to sleepy Ojala, California, Bron is caught off-guard by the effortless cool of her new classmates. In order to make it in Ojala, Bron will have to remake herself. And so she does, putting aside her stuides to drag race, hang out, and meet boys. Soon she’s involved in an intense love triangle — with no easy solutions.”

2. Beneath Your Beautiful-Labrinth feat. Emeli Sandre

No need to explain this pick. Just watch the video and feel all the feels like I did! It’s so so good! ❤

3. Memoirs of a Geisha (2005 Film)

memoirs-of-a-geishaThis shouldn’t come as a surprise considering how much anime I watch. I love Japanese culture! I love learning about it, listening to Japanese music artist, and how different it is from American culture. I totally fell in love with Memoirs of a Geisha when it came out. I was 15 at the time. I knew it was a book but never got around to reading it. But last month I did get a nice hard copy of it finally at a book exchange my local library hosted! So I will definitely be reading that this year for my 2017 TBR. Please please watch this film if you have not! I has so much Japanese cultural aspects and it is such a beautiful/heart wrenching story. It is a movie that I love very much!

4. Spice Dragon Red Chai

spice-dragonIf you guys have stores that sell STASH tea then I highly highly recommend picking up Spice Dragon Red Chai. It is super yummy and delicious! Spicy with a hint of sweetness. It isn’t overly “chai” either. It is the perfect blend to have on a cold and gloomy day. I adore drinking a nice hot cup of tea almost as much as coffee. If you don’t know where to pick this up I will link STASH’s website down below!

5. WoodWick Candles

wwI love candles that crackle while they burn! WoodWick candles are great for that fireside feel without the hassle of an actual fire. I do have to let you guys know, I buy a different brands candles at my local Fred Meyer because they are so much cheaper! Fred Meyer has sales throughout the week that usually entails 20% of home or buy one get one half off. That’s when I pick them up! Candles are a necessity in my home. I want to get some bookish candles but I feel like they are super duper spendy sometimes. I can get cheaper candles from my stores but I guess you are paying for the scent and not the actual product 😛

What are some of your favorite sappy items at the moment? Which ones mean the most to you? I would love to know! I know these are just random things, but they mean a lot to me considering I have close memories tied to them. They bring me a little bit of peace and happiness when I think about them.

  1. Oh spice dragon chai tea sounds pretty good. I like drinking tea, under a blanket with a book. Or just lighting a small candle though I don’t do that nearly enough. Or having the lights on my book shelves on.
