Tuesday Treasures

Where the hell has January gone?! I swear time keeps going by faster and faster with each passing year. Yesterday was my birthday and next week it’s already February. Time needs to slow the f**k down! Like…hold your horses there 2017. I need to collect myself and get my s**t together please. Who am I kidding?! I don’t have any of my s**t together…haha. Oh the joys of being an adult. Why were we so excited to grow up? All we do is work, eat, sleep and complain about everything. We must have been crazy.

Since I am now at the tender age of 27, I thought I would go over some things that I used to treasure when I was younger. You know…take a walk down memory lane. Maybe jog your noggin too! Sometimes it’s nice to reminisce about the things you used to love so much (and I still love a lot of these things to this day). I’ll never grow up on the inside. You can’t make me! Meh.

1. Anastasia, Thumbelina, and The Swan Princess

I don’t see how any girl could not be obsessed with these princesses?! These girls were what I dreamed of becoming back in my day. I honestly prefer these heroines more so than the Disney princesses. I felt like I connected with them more because of the hardships they had to endure. Not to say that the Disney one’s didn’t but Anastasia, Thumbelina and Odette felt more attainable in retrospect. You can find these two artworks here: http://moochirin.deviantart.com/art/Anastasia-611584421 and http://fantazyme.deviantart.com/art/Odette-The-swan-princess-438405240.

2. Sky Dancer Toys

If you didn’t have a Sky Dancer fairy then I feel bad for you! These were EVERYTHING! I remember begging my mom to get me one (I can’t remember if it was for my birthday or Christmas) but she got me one. I was OBSESSED with it! The same could be said of the Furby I got one year as well. I carried that thing around with me everywhere. I think after awhile the little motor (that made the Sky Dancer fly) went out and I was bummed when it broke. By that time I moved onto whatever else what “in” at the time.

3. Sailor Moon the Movie R, S, and Super S

I probably don’t even have to explain this to you guys. If you have been following me on my Bookstagram account (which is https://www.instagram.com/rusticwolvesandpaperfoxes/), then you already know how much I love Sailor Moon! I was just telling my mom yesterday that I remembered asking her to get me all the movies on VHS. She started laughing and said she remembered that too. I am super stoked they are bringing Sailor Moon R back out onto DVD. It will be nice to have them all again (that is if they decided to do all three). ❤

4. Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech

I didn’t read this book until I was a little older (I think sometime in my teens), but I was thinking about it today. I remember being so in love with this book. I think I may need to reorder this one for the collection! I love getting new copies of old books that I once adored. Here is the summary of this book:

“Thirteen-year-old Salamanca Tree Hiddle, proud of her country roots and the “Indian-ness in her blood,” travels from Ohio to Idaho with her eccentric grandparents. Along the way, she tells them of the story of Phoebe Winterbottom, who received mysterious messages, who met a “potential lunatic,” and whose mother disappeared.

As Sal entertains her grandparents with Phoebe’s outrageous story, her own story begins to unfold—the story of a thirteen-year-old girl whose only wish is to be reunited with her missing mother.”

5. The Last Unicorn

Unicorns were my life! I had so many unicorn knickknacks floating around my room. I even had a gold unicorn necklace that I wore all the time (until an old acquaintance of my parents broke in to our home and stole it…sad day). So, no surprise here that I love The Last Unicorn! It’s crazy to think about how sad this movie actually is now that I am an adult…but it’s so good! I highly recommend watching it if you have not seen it. It is a classic. What are some of your fondest treasures as a kid? Did you have some of the same ones as me? I would love to know what made you happy as a child (and what still does)! Let me know in the comments section. I would love to hear from you guys 🙂
