Welp…It’s officially the weekend and September my pandas! You know what that means right?! Lots of pumpkin spice EVERYTHING, toasty sweaters coming out of the closet (probably not for a few mores weeks though because it’s still hot as balls out), autumn decor popping up in stores, and summer anime season wrapping up! That means only a little while longer until we get fall anime premiers. Yippee!
Wait! I can’t forget the heaps of September memes we get every year. I quite like this one here:
That’s because every year as we get older time goes faster and faster. Time waits for no man Captain Picard. DEAL WITH IT LIKE THE REST OF US! Capeesh??? That’s what I thought. *Gives side eye*
*Ahem* Back to our regularly scheduled programming! 😀
I wanted to compile a little list for you guys of my favorite comedy/supernatural anime that usually involve Kami-sama’s (Gods/Deities) or yokai (ghost/phantoms/spirits). Really these anime’s are fun to watch and should make you laugh heaps and heaps. Quite like a bubbly little school girl when she gets her first crush or when you use laughter to cover up how dead you feel inside (like myself).
Shall we get this party started or what?! I think YES!
1. Kamisama Hajimemashita (Kamisama Kiss)
(This image can be found here: https://www.zerochan.net/1587157#full)
Nanami and Tomoe are one of my favorite anime couples of ALL time! I just love these two oh so much. They play off each other so well in this anime series. I mean just look at Tomoe! Nanami was bound to fall in love with him. He’s so grumpy and childish at times, yet so concerned for Nanami’s well being it isn’t even funny. I guess you could consider Tomoe a “kuudere” so to speak.
*Burst out into Katy Perry’s Hot n Cold*
‘Cause you’re hot then you’re cold
You’re yes then you’re no
You’re in then you’re out
You’re up then you’re down…
…Okay I’ll shut up now XD
Here is the anime synopsis for Kamisama Hajimemashita:
“High schooler Nanami Momozono has quite a few problems of late, beginning with her absentee father being in such extreme debt that they lose everything. Downtrodden and homeless, she runs into a man being harassed by a dog. After helping him, she explains her situation, and to her surprise, he offers her his home in gratitude. But when she discovers that said home is a rundown shrine, she tries to leave; however, she is caught by two shrine spirits and a fox familiar named Tomoe. They mistake her for the man Nanami rescued—the land god of the shrine, Mikage. Realizing that Mikage must have sent her there as a replacement god, Tomoe leaves abruptly, refusing to serve a human.
Rather than going back to being homeless, Nanami immerses herself in her divine duties. But if she must keep things running smoothly, she will need the help of a certain hot-headed fox. In her fumbling attempt to seek out Tomoe, she lands in trouble and ends up sealing a contract with him. Now the two must traverse the path of godhood together as god and familiar; but it will not be easy, for new threats arise in the form of a yokai who wants to devour the girl, a snake that wants to marry her, and Nanami’s own unexpected feelings for her new familiar.”
2. Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha.
Here is one anime that DOESN’T get enough attention! Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha. (Inari Kon Kon)! If you want a pile of cuteness while laughing your butt off then this is the anime for you. I’ve been meaning to buy this anime on DVD because I enjoyed THAT much. Sad it only gets a 7.3 out of 10 on My Anime List. I think it deserves much more than that! Probably because it’s considered supernatural, romance, school. I know a lot of people don’t care for that type of genre. BUT I DOOOO! ❤ #Fuckthehaterz
“Clumsy, below average intellect, and shy – these are some of the traits that Inari Fushimi possesses. Despite her shortcomings, she is very considerate of others. She can’t ignore anyone’s plea for help! She also has a long time crush on Kouji Tanbabashi, who she admires for being cheerful and always hardworking. The problem is, Inari’s incurable shyness makes it difficult to express her feelings for Kouji.
Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha starts with Inari taking a shortcut to her school. She happens to see a fox pup that’s about to fall in the river. Although she’s running late, she just can’t ignore the pup. Uka-no-Mitama-no-Kami, the god of the Inari Shrine, is thankful for Inari’s kindness toward the young fox, who turns out to be a familiar named Kon. To show her gratitude to Inari, she fulfills one of Inari’s wishes, but the fulfillment of the wish only invites trouble. To compensate, Uka-no-Mitama-no-Kami bestows Inari a small part of her divine power that gives Inari the ability to transform into anyone at will.
Inari now possesses a power of a god, even if it’s just a small portion. Otherworldly beings suddenly take an interest in her, for better or worse. What kind of adventure awaits Inari, and will she be able to tell Kouji everything that she has kept in her heart for so long?”
3. Fukigen na Mononokean (The Morose Mononokean)
Fukigen na Mononokean (The Morose Mononokean) is a considered a “newer” anime. It came out last year for summer season. So much newer than other anime’s I have on this list! This was a great little supernatural anime. I was quite pleased with it! It also gets a lower score on My Anime List. A 7.4 out of 10…which I guess isn’t too terrible in some people’s eyes. I guess you would consider a low score 6 and under maybe? I don’t know how people rank things these days. I feel like I’m out of the loop sometimes when it comes to ranking anime. But if you want something light-hearted and easy going to watch because you have nothing else to do then totally check out Fukigen na Mononokean (The Morose Mononokean).
“The start of Hanae Ashiya’s high school career has not been easy—he has spent all of the first week in the infirmary, and his inexplicable condition is only getting worse. The cause of his torment is the mysterious fuzzy creature that has attached itself to him ever since he stumbled upon it the day before school began.
As his health continues to decline and the creature grows in size, Hanae comes across a flyer advertising an exorcist who expels youkai. Desperate and with nothing left to lose, he calls the number and is led to the Mononokean, a tea room which suddenly appears next to the infirmary. A morose-sounding man, Haruitsuki Abeno, reluctantly helps Hanae but demands payment afterward. Much to Hanae’s dismay, he cannot afford the fee and must become an employee at the Mononokean to work off his debt. And to make things worse, his new boss is actually one of his classmates. If Hanae ever hopes to settle his debt, he must work together with Abeno to guide a variety of dangerous, strange, and interesting youkai back to the Underworld.”
Now here is an anime that has a mix of everything in it. You have comedy, psychological, supernatural, drama, mystery, and even a little bit of romance! If you want MOST of the genre’s in one anime then you just have to watch xxxHolic! The best quality about this anime is Yuuko-sama. She is so elegant, and beautiful, and hilariously charming that you can’t help but fall in love with her. She is the BEST! :3
“Kimihiro Watanuki can see spirits and other assorted supernatural creatures, which is quite a bothersome ability he strongly dislikes. On the way home one day, while plagued by some spirits, he is inexplicably compelled to enter a strange house. There, he encounters Yuuko, a mysterious woman who claims to be able to rid him of the ability to see and attract the troublesome creatures—for a price. She demands that he work at her “store” that grants wishes to people, and thus begins Watanuki’s adventures through weird and wonderful events.”
5. Inu x Boku SS
(This image can be found here: https://www.zerochan.net/full/1018918)
Oh lookie! Another favorite supernatural/comedy anime of mine. If you want some hilarious sexual innuendos/jokes then you have to put Inu x Boku SS on your watch list. This anime is so kooky and random and funny that you can’t pass up the opportunity to watch it. If you are in an “anime slump” then watch this one right away. Ayano-sensei’s orders! Go on. Shoo shoo.
“Ririchiyo Shirakiin is the sheltered daughter of a renowned family. With her petite build and wealthy status, Ririchiyo has been a protected and dependent girl her entire life, but now she has decided to change all that. However, there is just one problem—the young girl has a sharp tongue she can’t control, and terrible communication skills.
With some help from a childhood friend, Ririchiyo takes up residence in Maison de Ayakashi, a secluded high-security apartment complex that, as the unsociable 15-year-old soon discovers, is home to a host of bizarre individuals. Furthermore, their quirky personalities are not the strangest things about them: each inhabitant of the Maison de Ayakashi, including Ririchiyo, is actually half-human, half-youkai.
But Ririchiyo’s troubles have only just begun. As a requirement of staying in her new home, she must be accompanied by a Secret Service agent. Ririchiyo’s new partner, Soushi Miketsukami, is handsome, quiet… but ridiculously clingy and creepily submissive. With Soushi, her new supernatural neighbors, and the beginning of high school, Ririchiyo definitely seems to have a difficult path ahead of her.”
