TTT: Top Ten Tuesday-Ten Reasons Why I’m Loving Uma Musume: Pretty Derby…pssst It’s Mainly Because The Girls Are Super Pretty

Okay, okay.

I may be a little biased when it comes to P.A. Works. But what can I say?! They make beautiful animations. All the girls in their anime series tend to be soooo pretty! Just look at Nagi no Asukara, Glassip, Shirobako, Another, Angel Beats!, Red Data Girl, and Charlotte. All prime examples of how animation should look. *cough cough* I’m looking at you 18if and 3D Kanojo: Real Girl.

Ahem. Animation aside I think Uma Musume: Pretty Derby has stepped it up for P.A. Works in the story-line department. I know a lot of people were not fans of Nagi-Asu or Glasslip (I am not included in this category since I enjoyed them both). I also heard Sakura Quest and The Eccentric Family were quite decent as well, though I haven’t seen either of them yet.

I guess every anime studio has their hit and miss series. I don’t expect everyone to be perfect. I think things would be pretty boring if everything was super duper good all the time. Who am I kidding?! It would be AMAZING to have a studio produce top notch quality anime all the time….but we know that’s never going to happen XD

Today I simply wanted to share my love for Uma Musume: Pretty Derby! It is one series for spring season I look forward to watching every week. I can’t believe we are already have way done with the series though! Time has been flying by this year. One day it’s Monday and the next thing I know it’s Saturday. Crazy how fast everything gets as you get older. But enough of my rambling…let’s get to the reasons why I (apparently) love horse girls so much!

^The comedy is PURE GOLD! Literally Gold Ship makes this series THAT much better.

^All of the girls are named after real race horses.

^The series pays homage to older anime series.

^The racing scenes are done INCREDIBLY well.

^Spe-chan makes for a relatable main character. She’s trying her hardest to overcome her obstacles with the support of her teammates.

^Yuri aspects are thrown into the mix.

^Gotta have a little healthy rivalry going on! It adds character development.

^The show wouldn’t be complete without a pervy trainer right? Right!

^This show has some of THE best facial expressions.

^Did I mention that Suzuka is BEST girl? No. Well she is!!! She’s got my vote this season.

Who else is watching Uma Musume: Pretty Derby this season? Which girl is your favorite? I am also pretty fond of Mejiro McQueen and Symboli Rudolf. I am also starting to root for Grass Wonder! I hope she can make a comeback after being out for 10 months due to her leg injury.

I would also like to take a moment to appreciate the real life Special Week. He actually passed away quite recently. Between 1997 and 1999 he won ten of his seventeen races including three at Grade I level. Special Week was the inspiration for the main character of the 2018 anime Uma Musume: Pretty Derby. Thank you Special Week for all of your hard work and determination. I hope you get lots of carrots in horsey heaven ❤

  1. I wasn’t planning on watching this, because horse girls? Really? But I kept hearing good things, so by episode four I took the plunge and found out that I actually love this. It shouldn’t be this good, but PA somehow made a show about horse girls be entertaining, beautiful to look at, and endearing all at the same time.

ps. Sakura Quest and the Eccentric Family are great pieces of work. Definitely check them out when you have the chance.
