I hate to see you leave, but I love to watch you go. My favorite opening & ending songs for spring anime season.

Yes, sadly we are coming to the end of spring anime season. It has been a long and wonderful journey, but we now have to make way for summer season! I’m still kinda surprised this summer is quite small in comparison to other summer seasons (I talked about this in my other blog post and I’ll probably keep talking about it cause I’m a loser like that). If you didn’t already know…I posted what I’ll be watching this summer season a little while back. You can check out that blog post here: https://kawaiipaperpandas.wordpress.com/2018/06/06/whats-coming-up-wednesday-hello-sunshine-and-summer-anime-season-weve-been-expecting-you/. You know what I’ve come to realize? I don’t push my blog post as often as I should. I know you’re supposed to in order to get more foot traffic to your site but I like people to come on their own accord. I guess if I feel like re-sharing a blog post then I will? I don’t even know where I’m going with this anymore. #pleasesendhalpandcoffee

Alright, enough with the idle chit-chat Ayano. Let’s just get to the point of this blog post already. Let’s do this peeps! Here are my favorite Opening and Ending songs of spring 2018 anime season! YAAASSS. Give me all those wonderful OP’s and ED’s!

1. Kakuriyo No Yadomeshi (Kakuriyo –Bed and Breakfast for Spirits-) Opening

^This opening song is visually stunning as well as being super catchy! Definitely top of the list for me this season.

2. Golden Kamuy Opening “Winding Road” by MAN WITH A MISSION

^Because it’s MAN WITH A MISSION…duh. One of my FAVORITE Japanese rock bands.

3. Darling in the FranXX Opening 2 “Kiss of Death” by Mika Nakashima x Hyde

^Kiss of Death is sensual, hauntingly beautiful, and complete PERFECTION. Many people believe this version should have been the opening visuals for Darling in the FranXX, but I think it’s better for the second half of the series. If this version would have come first the visuals wouldn’t have correlated with the story-line.

4. Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii Opening “Fiction” by Sumika

^I absolutely adore that this opening song incorporated sign language into its visuals! You don’t see many anime revolving around this type of stuff. I feel like the success of A Silent Voice really kick-started the use of sign language in anime and I hope we see more of it soon.

5. Megalo Box Opening “Bite” by Leo Imai

^This song totally gives me 80’s rock vibes. The subtle close up shots really tie well into the series. Gotta love that foreshadowing doh 😉

6. Tokyo Ghoul:re Ending “Half” by Ziyoou-vachi

^One of the more mellow songs this season but I totes enjoy this song oh so much! It gives Tokyo Ghoul:re a lighter feeling since the series as a whole was hella dark.

7. Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai Ending “Love Song” by Manaka Iwami

^Boooo…I couldn’t find the ending visuals for this song but it is so sweet none the less! At least this video contains the whole song.

8. Boku no Hero Academia Season 3 Ending “Update” by miwa

^I was pleasantly surprised that Boku no Hero Academia got delicate opening and ending song this time around. The opening (compared to previous seasons) was more relaxed and mature. While I really liked the opening song I actually prefer the ending one more.

9. Megalo Box Ending “Kakatte Koi yo” by NakamuraEmi

^There is just something about this song that is raw and emotional. I think it was really fitting for the ending of Megalo Box. It rounds out the show quite well.

10. Golden Kamuy Ending “Hibana” by The Sixth Lie

^Another perfect ending song for a near perfect anime series…we won’t talk about the bear XD The comedy and facial expressions in this series is PURE GOLD. It has been one hell of a ride.

Honorable Mentions:

“Changing Point” Opening from Magical Girl Site
“Unlock” Opening from Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS
“Howling” Opening from Nanatsu no Taizai Season 2
Otomodachi Film” Opening from Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai
“To See the Future” Ending from Sword Art Online: GGO Alternative

What were your favorite opening and ending songs of the season? Did any of them make the list? I will be posting my final scores/thoughts of spring anime season very shortly. 1. I really enjoy the OP to GeGeGe no Kitaro because it just keeps getting stuck in my head. Otherwise I quite like the endings to Darling in the Franxx and Steins;Gate 0, but it hasn’t been a great season for me and music.
I really disliked the Tokyo Ghoul and My Hero Academia openings this season and while I enjoyed the opening to Libra of Nil Admirari I’m still wondering how it suits the anime its attached to.
Thanks for the shout out on the poll.

    1. Of course! Sometimes you either connect with a song or you don’t. I am curious to see what summer season will bring us. I still think my favorite of the year has to go to Kokkoku’s Flashback. That OP rocks my sock off lol
