Summer Anime Wrap-Up: Another Sun-soaked Anime Season Fades Away

I am leaving this summer anime season a teeny-tiny bit unsatisfied. Nothing majorly wrong…I just felt like my attention was elsewhere this time around. I did end up dropping and I also put quite a bit of anime on hold because my heart just wasn’t into it. I felt like I should complete the shows I was die hard fan-girling over and knew I was going to finish…everything else can just wait. I know some of you guys were also feeling this way. We had previously discussed it on one of my Twitter post a few weeks back. I still feel the same then as I do now. I am hoping with the seasonal change I’ll get back into the swing of things! I am trying to keep my watch list a bit shorter for fall season. I hate when I overindulge or over do it with my watch list. Sometimes less is more!

Now that summer anime season is coming to a close I decided to fit an older series into my schedule before we kick-off fall season. I am currently watching Sakura Trick! Very kawaii, very girly, and also very gay. I love it! I should be able to blast through it since it is only 12 episodes long. Anyone else trying to squeeze some last minute things in before the new season? I also FINALLY got to watch the Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple movie and OH MY GOD was it EVERYTHING!!! I am oh so happy that I got to see it. Maybe I’ll write a post about it sometime next week. Also, the My Hero Academia: Two Heroes movie was so much fun! I thought it was a great addition to the franchise. It wasn’t perfect, but it was damn awesome to watch. #PlusUltra

As I have stated (many times) before: if you have been following me for some time you will know how my wrap-up rating system works. If you are new you can check out my previous wrap-up post here (so you can get a general idea of what I’m talking about):  Let’s get into it my pandas!

What shows did you drop or put on hold to watch at a later time? Is there anything you won’t be going back to in the foreseeable future? What was your favorite show of the season? Let me know all of your thoughts and feelings in the comments section below! Thank you so much for joining me my pandas. I’ll catch you all on the flip side 😉

  1. Well, I’m trying to complete Island before the new season starts, and I think I will be able to do that, as it’s only 12 episodes. I kind of got interested in it because both Lina and Cactus Matt did a great job in promoting it, and I have to say it’s worth the watch.
The one I put on hold was Hanebado! I really loved it, but for some reason I did not yet complete it. I will probably restart it, as it’s been quite a while since I saw it. Still 13 shows is a lot (it’s more than me lol!)
I think both Cells at Work and Phantom in the Twilight were my favorite shows for this season. With only a few more days to go before the new season is going to be starting I’m looking forward to what the next shows are going to be like! Have a great weekend! 😊

    1. I put Island on hold because I felt like the premise of it was easy to figure out once you read other people’s theories or comments…hence why I put it on hold part way through. Hanebado! was quite good! I think you should finish it up. It also had a pretty decent ending too. I was able to finish Sakura Trick today. Glad I was able to sneak in another older series before the new season started.

      1. I hope to get back to Hanebado too. Might even do so this week, as despite it being a sports anime I really did like it a lot 😊 Can’t wait to get started on the new season! No idea yet what I will watch, but will find something for sure 😊😊

      1. I agree. I think this really is a series that is best watched a couple of episodes at a time, as the storyline is pretty intricate, and contains many layers and details (things that I highly enjoy, and one of the reason I’m liking this so much so far 😊).

  2. Awesome list. Some I’m going to have to add to my catch up list…
I’ve been crazy busy with work stuff and have yet to finish any of the summer series. I still have MHA, AoT, Island, How Not to summon a Demon Lord, Overlord, Hanebado, Harukana, Chio’s School Road, and Angels of Death. With 3 or 4 episodes of each, so I’ll probably binge them to catch up.
I’d have to say Chio’s School Road was the big surprise for me. Such a funny show.

      1. It’s great when you get surprised like that. Makes me want to avoid all the details of the shows until I’m watching them. I did the same thing with Violet Evergarden back when that released. I started watching it off a single image on Netflix and was repeatedly blown away.

  3. I went into Summer wanting a small watch list, and I ended up getting an even smaller watch list than anticipated because of the number of late drops I had this season. There were a few shows I ended up finishing just for the sake of having something to review at the end of the season and normally I wouldn’t keep watching. That said, some of the shows have been really enjoyable this season so it isn’t a totally wash out. Still, I am looking forward to the new season. Now I’ve just got to finish the poll for best and worst of the season and write my final thoughts on the season up.

    1. I went and voted yesterday! I don’t think it was a complete waste of a season, but the first half of the year was definitely stronger than the midway point. I think fall season will make up for the lack of shows this summer season. My body is ready for some new series!

  4. I intended to follow several animes this season, but didn’t like usual. However, I did find more anime to enjoy in Summer season than previous seasons. There just wasn’t that one anime for me that I wanted to keep up with. Hoping next season my job won’t keep me away from them anime goodness. Going to Happy Sugar Life. Looks hilarious.

  5. Wish I could enjoy Banana Fish as much as you. Started to lose interest about the time they went to LA. Happy Sugar Life is good but creeps me out. Like sugar I can only do small quantities before going into overload. Season 3 of AoT was good enough that I wish I had skipped about half of season 2.

And why do I constantly confuse Hanebado with H. Receive? The costumes are nothing alike.
