We are gonna just jump right into this post! I don’t have a lot of time before work and I need to get this to you guys ASAP. I mean…I put it off for long enough. You all know how my rating system works for wrap-up post. If you don’t you can always check out last seasons rating post here: https://kawaiipaperpandas.com/2019/03/30/winter-anime-wrap-up-dear-winter-im-breaking-up-with-you-its-time-for-me-to-start-seeing-spring-season/. It’s pretty easy peasy lemon squeezy. I state what anime I watched, rate it on a scale from 1 to 10, and simply state whether or not I would recommend it to you guys. These post are mainly for people who don’t watch seasonal anime. That way many of you can pick and choose which shows you would like to watch next or put off for what seems like an eternity until you have time to watch it XD

Let’s get to it my pandas!

Hey, hey, hey! I am alive and well my pandas. I feel like I’ve been gone from blogging for awhile now, but in all reality it has only been a few short weeks. It feels kinda odd not having written anything in a hot minute…but I am here now to bring you a little sumthin sumthin 😉 Since February is all about love and affection and hearts and candy I’ve decided to give a shout out to some shows that need more wuv! I like writing these post from time to time. It allows you guys to check out some shows you might have missed when they first originally aired or to see what shows you already have in your anime viewing arsenal.

I wanted to get a post out since I’ve been away for some time. I feel like I am going a bit bonkers with post ideas running around in my head 😛 I do have a fun collab that will be heading your guys way very soon! If you are following me over on Twitter then you already know the idea of the post I’ll be brewing up next. I hope you all are excited as I am for this post! Sometimes I can come up blog ideas fairly easily, while other times it takes me awhile before something pops into my head. I know I haven’t been pushing out as much content as I usually do, but I decided to focus more on the quality of the content that I post rather than quantity. I hope you guys understand where I am coming from ❤

Alright, alright. Enough with the idle chitchat…lets showcase some anime series!

1. Sagrada Reset

I feel like a lot of people passed up on Sagrada Reset when it initially aired in 2017. This is mostly like due to it being a slow burner/slow pay off anime. While some of the series does take a while to build up, the pay off it totally worth it. This is one of the best mystery/supernatural anime I have seen. I would also almost consider this anime to be a thriller, not in the “creepy thriller” sense, but in the tension that it builds and how many cliffhangers we see throughout the episodes as the series progresses. If you want an anime that challenges your thinking and cognitive skills, while also boggling your mind, I highly suggest checking this show out.

2. Occultic;Nine

Speaking of mind boggling and creepy anime…lets talk about Occultic;Nine. This anime came out for fall season in 2016. I know there was a lot of mixed reviews/feelings for this show. The dialogue is very fast so keeping up with the subtitles was a little tricky. I think this is the fastest anime I have seen thus far (in terms of keeping up with what was going on). Personally, I really loved the horror elements of this show. Its genre is sci-fi and mystery, but the creep factor is top notch. This is another series that challenges the ideologies of the mind and makes you question whether or not the supernatural entities exist in the real world. I have major love for Occultic;Nine.

3. ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.

Ahhhhhh. What can I say about ACCA that hasn’t already been said before? I know some of you guys have already seen this series and loved it as much as I have. I was a ding dong and didn’t watch it when it came out in 2017. Well…when it came out for winter season in 2017. ACCA is pragmatic, a breath of fresh air, and has a certain je ne sais quoi to its characters, storyline, and world building. Overall, ACCA is completely charming and deserves all the praise in the world. Seriously! You will not be disappointed with this series. I give you my scouts honor.

4. Altair: A Record of Battles

I will say this until I am blue in the face…Altair: A Record of Battles was the sleeper anime of 2017. This anime is so unbelievably good that I can’t hype it up enough. I am not kidding either. If you want to watch a killer historical anime about war strategy in the Middle East (based loosely around the country of Turkey) than you gotta check this show out. This show is HIGHLY underrated. Did anyone else check this show out when it first came out? I feel like I am the only person who actually watched it. I would love to see some other people get into it and then possibly have a discussion on it! That would be a dream goal of mine this year. If anyone would like to do a collab on this series please let me know!

5. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash

Looking for an emotional punch to your gut? Well then…I have the anime for you! Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash garnered some followers when it aired in 2016, but I still feel like it deserves more recognition. The drama in this show is impeccable…and I mean IMPECCABLE. I really loved the fact that this story took its time to build up the characters naturally and didn’t force anyone to be someone they were not. It seems like a lot of fantasy anime these days just throw the viewer into the mix and set up unrealistic standards for the main characters. Grimgar gives us a realistic situation without forcing anyone’s hand or just giving the viewer instant gratification. Step by step characters are built through every interaction with the plot. You really have to pay attention to the small details in this story, or you miss crucial elements to the development of each character and the situations they are put in. If you want an in-depth experience with a fantasy, adventure, drama anime then watch Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash ASAP.

And there you have it folks! Some anime series that need all the love and affection they can get. If you have seen these series what are your overall impressions, thoughts, and feelings about them? If you haven’t seen any of these series will you be adding them to your watch list? I would love to know what y’all think down below in the comments section! I’m super duper proud of myself for getting a post out today! I’ll try to get back into the swing of things as soon as I can. I have some great blog ideas floating around. I just need to stop being lazy and actually get them out…tehehehe 😀

Disclaimer: All imagery and photos come from searching for them on the internet. I have no claim or right to them. If I find any links I will always post them (this usually entails fan art or any other work affiliated with an artist).

Ya know…I still haven’t seen a single episode of Game of Thrones…but I felt like this gif was perfect for today’s post. That’s right my pandas! Winter anime season is upon us. Welcome to a new season and a new year. Man oh man! I can’t believe we are already into 2019. The countdown to my birthday starts now. My birthday is January 23rd in which I will be 29 years young. How time flies when you are having fun or in this case when you don’t know what the hell you are doing with your life. Just kidding! I have to say my late 20’s have been some of the BEST years of my life. I am more confident in who I am as a person, I have a caring boyfriend who accepts me for who I am (and my slight obsession with anime), and I have made it past two years of blogging (which I didn’t think was going to happen when I first started out). 2018 started out a little rough but around late spring is when everything started to look a little better. I am going into 2019 with a positive mind and an open heart ❤

I hope everyone had a good holiday season. I know I sure did! I got everything I wanted for Christmas. Lots of anime series and anime themed merch. What more could an otaku ask for? Nothing. The answer is simply nothing. Anime stuff is more than enough for me! What was your favorite thing you got for Christmas (if you celebrated this year)? If you follow me on Twitter then you would know my boyfriend got me the limited edition box set of Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) and the limited edition steel box edition of Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous). I also got this beautiful art print of Wicked Lady from Sailor Moon that I have been DYING to have for the last few months. You can say he’s definitely a keeper!

Alright, alright. You guys didn’t come here to listen to me talk about Christmas presents I got or my boyfriend. You came here to see what I’ll be watching for winter anime season! Surprisingly enough this season will be another small one for me. I mean…comparatively small in comparison to how many shows I usually watch. This list will not include leftovers or continuing series I will be watching. Leftovers include Run with the Wind, Karakuri Circus, and Sword Art Online: Alicization. Continuing series I will be watching during winter season are the Morose Mononokean season 2 and Kakegurui season 2. I would be watching Date A Live season 3 if I had ever finished season 2. Whoops! XD

Today’s post is easy peasy per usual. I will be stating the anime title(s) I will be watching with the trailer and anime synopsis underneath. Y’all already know how these post work by now 😉 Let’s get right to it!

1. Boogiepop wa Warawanai

Anime synopsis:

“There is an urban legend that tells of a shinigami that can release people from the pain they are suffering. This “Angel of Death” has a name—Boogiepop. And the legends are true. Boogiepop is real. When a rash of disappearances involving female students breaks out at Shinyo Academy, the police and faculty assume they just have a bunch of runaways on their hands. Yet some students know better. Something mysterious and foul is afoot. Is it Boogiepop or something even more sinister…?”

2. Gotoubun no Hanayome

Anime synopsis:

“A high school romantic comedy with five times the cute girls! A high school boy must work part-time to help five sisters study so they can graduate, but the only thing these quintuplets have in common is that they all hate studying!

Five girls who want to do anything but study, and their tutor: a high school boy who’s got book smarts and not much else. Fuutarou Uesugi took the tutoring gig because he was desperate for cash, but when his students—the five beautiful daughters of a wealthy businessman—find five times the excuses to slack off, what can he do?! At this rate, the sisters won’t graduate, so if he wants to get paid, Fuutarou must think of a plan to suit each of them… Which feels hopeless when five out of five of them think he’s a loser!”

3. Dororo

Anime synopsis:

“A samurai lord has bartered away his newborn son’s organs to forty-eight demons in exchange for dominance on the battlefield. Yet, the abandoned infant survives thanks to a medicine man who equips him with primitive prosthetics—lethal ones with which the wronged son will use to hunt down the multitude of demons to reclaim his body one piece at a time, before confronting his father. On his journeys the young hero encounters an orphan who claims to be the greatest thief in Japan.”

4. Domestic no Kanojo

Anime synopsis:

“Natsuo Fujii is in love with his teacher, Hina. Attempting to forget his feelings towards her, Natsuo goes to a mixer with his classmates where he meets an odd girl named Rui Tachibana. In a strange turn of events, Rui asks Natsuo to sneak out with her and do her a favor. To his surprise, their destination is Rui’s house—and her request is for him to have sex with her. There’s no love behind the act; she just wants to learn from the experience. Thinking that it might help him forget about Hina, Natsuo hesitantly agrees.

After this unusual encounter Natsuo now faces a new problem. With his father remarrying, he ends up with a new pair of stepsisters; unfortunately, he knows these two girls all too well. He soon finds out his new siblings are none other than Hina and Rui! Now living with both the teacher he loves and the girl with whom he had his “first time,” Natsuo finds himself in an unexpected love triangle as he climbs ever closer towards adulthood.”

5. Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue.

Anime synopsis:

“Mystery writer Mikazuki Subaru, who isn’t good at dealing with people, finds them to be a disturbance when it comes to building his imaginary world. One day, he chances upon a stray cat and feels inspiration strike, so he brings the cat home as his muse.

Can watching the inexplicable behaviors of a cat form material for a novel?”

6. Kaguya-sama: Love is War

Anime synopsis:

“Considered a genius due to having the highest grades in the country, Miyuki Shirogane leads the prestigious Shuchiin Academy’s student council as its president, working alongside the beautiful and wealthy vice president Kaguya Shinomiya. The two are often regarded as the perfect couple by students despite them not being in any sort of romantic relationship.

However, the truth is that after spending so much time together, the two have developed feelings for one another; unfortunately, neither is willing to confess, as doing so would be a sign of weakness. With their pride as elite students on the line, Miyuki and Kaguya embark on a quest to do whatever is necessary to get a confession out of the other. Through their daily antics, the battle of love begins!”

7. The Rising of the Shield Hero

Anime synopsis:

“Stories of old tell of four otherworldly heroes—wielding the sword, spear, bow, and shield—who defended the land from wave after wave of calamity. With the fate of the world in balance, the kingdom of Melromarc summons these legendary figures; in modern-day Japan, the call is answered, and the unwitting heroes are transported to this fantasy universe.

Thrust into Melromarc and given the title of “Shield Hero,” otaku Naofumi Iwatani is labeled the weakest due to his lack of offensive capability and apparent inexperience. When the heroes part ways to start their journeys, he only has one willing companion: the beautiful princess Malty Melromarc. However, she soon betrays him, steals all his money, and accuses him of taking advantage of her.

For his alleged crimes, Naofumi is branded a criminal and made outcast of society. With hatred filling his heart, he sets out alone, vowing vengeance against those who wronged him.”

8. The Promised Neverland

Anime synopsis:

“At Grace Field House, life couldn’t be better for the orphans! Though they have no parents, together with the other kids and a kind “Mama” who cares for them, they form one big, happy family. No child is ever overlooked, especially since they are all adopted by the age of 12. Their daily lives involve rigorous tests, but afterwards, they are allowed to play outside.

There is only one rule they must obey: do not leave the orphanage. But one day, two top-scoring orphans, Emma and Norman, venture past the gate and unearth the horrifying reality behind their entire existence: they are all livestock, and their orphanage is a farm to cultivate food for a mysterious race of demons. With only a few months left to pull off an escape plan, the children must somehow change their predetermined fate.”

9. Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka

Anime synopsis:

“Due to the invasion of Disas—enigmatic creatures of soil from the land of the dead—mankind, who was on the verge of crisis, was saved by the efforts of magical girls who had obtained a mysterious magical power…

Three years later, new incidents suddenly occur, tearing apart the normalcy of the girls who had each returned to their normal lives. The saviours of humanity, those magical girls called “The Magical Five” now live each day fighting for their lives, even as they are trifled with by fate…”

10. Egao no Daika

Anime synopsis:

“On a planet far from Earth, there is a kingdom full of smiling faces. Princess Yuuki is 12 years old, and about to enter a sensitive age in a person’s life. Everyday, she cries, laughs, and sometimes, her heart throbs with excitement. All the while, she lives merrily in the royal palace.

Filling her days are her loyal vassals: her tutor Reira, Izana who assists in political affairs, the leader of the chivalry Harold … and then there is her childhood friend and aide Joshua.

“Yuuki! If you have spirit and guts, you can do anything!”

“…No, not this again! Joshua, be nobler!”

Stella is 17 years old and a capable, reserved soldier. However, she is always smiling … for smiling is essential to living.

This is a story of two girls born on distant planets.”

Anime I want to watch but I’m still unsure about:

How clumsy you are, Miss Ueno

Anime synopsis:

“The story centers on Ueno, a genius inventor who is in the third grade at her junior high school. She also serves as the head of the school’s science club and secretly falls in love with one of its members, second grade student Tanaka. Using her eccentric inventions, Ueno tries to confess her love to him indirectly. But her attempt always ends in failure.”

Like I said…there is are a lot more anime series going on for winter season but these are all the shows I am most interested in. I am trying to cut out shows that I know are going to be flops or things I would eventually get bored of and drop half way through. I actually completed all of the shows I said I was going to watch for fall season so that’s an accomplishment for me! Summer anime season this last year kinda dragged on and I knew I needed to do something to get me out of my boredom slump. Hence why I am watching less shows this time around. What new series are you most excited for? Which continuations are you happy to see back? I know I am stoked that Kakegurui and the Morose Mononokean got second seasons! Two series I really enjoyed when they first came out. As always thank you for joining me my pandas. I’ll catch you all in the next post! 😀

I know, I know. Veteran’s Day in the U.S. was on Sunday and Veteran’s Day Observed was yesterday, but whose to say we can’t celebrate a little while longer? We definitely have to show some love and appreciation to all those brave men and women who have served our country. Although one specific man couldn’t quite show his gratitude because it was raining. *cough cheeto face cough* Yup, you heard that right my pandas. Someone was being a big ol’ baby because of some light rain. *insert palm face emoji here*

None the less! This girl right here is going to show her gratitude by making this week’s Top Ten Tuesday all about military based anime. Today is all about war strategies, violence, gore, death, weapons and even one bad ass loli (you know who I’m talking about) 😉 Maybe this list will inspire you all to watch some more action/military anime in the future! This genre isn’t usually my go-to, but there are some hidden gems that pop up once and awhile. Also some of these anime series are low-key underrated in my opinion. I highly suggest checking any of these out if you get the chance!

1. G.A.T.E

^Let’s admit it….we all watched this anime for Rory (and maybe Princess Pina as well).

2. Girls’ Last Tour

^While this anime mainly revolves around what happens after war, it is still freaking adorable yet oddly dark at the same time.

3. Schwarzemarken

^I’m telling ya…if you want to see some fucked up shit happen Schwarzemarken is the one.

4. Izetta the Last Witch

^Because sometimes you need a little magic with your military.

5. Violet Evergarden

^Oh you know…just a little something something to make you bawl your eyes out.

6. Attack on Titan

^Attack on Titan is a give in at this point lololz

7. Otome Youkai Zakuro

^A little bit more on the fluffy side of things but still military based none the less!

8. Joker Game

^It’s spy versus spy in this free for all.

9. Genocidal Organ

^I encourage everyone to watch all of the Project Itoh movies. Genocidal Organ presents complex ideologies and is an amazing blend of the Sci-Fi and military genre.

10. Youjo Senki (Saga of Tanya the Evil)

^Today’s list wouldn’t be complete without our enraged psycho loli Tanya 😀

Honorable Mentions:
Code Geass
Full Metal Panic
Girls und Panzer
Owari no Seraph
Pumpkin Scissors
Valkyria Chronicles
Mobile Suit Gundam
Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online

And there you have it folks! We’ve got a little something for everyone on this list. I also enjoy a series that mixes in military anime with another genre such as romance, sci-fi, or slice-of-life. That way you aren’t watching a story about war for a gazillion hours being bored to death. What are some of your favorite military based anime? Did any of them make the list? If you don’t watch that much military based anime which shows caught your interest? Let me know all of your thoughts and comments down below! Thank you for joining me today. It’s always a pleasure to have you guys ❤

We are back for round two of Featured Creator Friday! I am oh so excited to share a fellow cosplayer who shares the same love for Sailor Moon as much as I do. We need all the moonies we can get! ❤

Today’s interview is none other than Alicia from Kiss a Frog Cosplay. I happened to stumble upon Alicia’s twitter page not too long ago and I knew I need to follow her. As a person who only cosplays on occasions, I thought it was time I expanded my horizons as a cosplay enthusiast. I have been following a few of the more mainstream cosplayers (you know…the ones who cosplay for a living and are damn good at what they do) during my time on Twitter and IG, but I found myself lacking in the diversity department. I felt like I personally wasn’t being inclusive enough with who I was following, so I set out to find other people of interest. And BAM! Alicia ended up in my Twitter timeline (along with other amazing cosplayers who I now follow as well).

Alicia is so talented, so vigilant in her work, and so humble. It is an honor for me to bring you guys this interview! I hope that all of these interviews I am sharing with you guys allows everyone to open their eyes and see all the wonderful talent hidden amongst the rubble in the otaku community. Alicia is a representative for the POC cosplay community and strives to show others that all skin tones matter. She also has a passion for making sure that body positivity is inclusive for women of all shapes and sizes. I really admire her spirit!

Here are a few cosplay looks Alicia has done over the course of her career (All photos were taken by Madster Cosplay and Photography):

Now let’s hop right on in to this interview!

1. What was the first memory or inspiration that made you want to cosplay?

Alicia: I’m inspired by every person I meet while in cosplay. Seeing my fans (and friends) enthusiasm for our craft, and hearing them tell me about what they’re working on or what they’re excited about is what keeps me going. Their joy is my joy. All day, everyday.

2. If you could give others cosplay advice what would it be?

Alicia: Don’t be afraid! Order that cosplay, buy that pattern and get started. Don’t let intimidation or naysayers keep you from doing something you’ve dreamed of. We all start somewhere!

3. Who is your dream cosplay character?

Alicia: My dream cosplays are Princess Peach and my OC Noelle!

4. Have you had positive or negative experiences cosplaying? Feel free to explain in any detail.

Alicia: I’ve had a mix of both, more positive than negative. I have always been well received and welcomed in the community and at conventions.

5. I saw a little while back you had some issues at the Con you previously attended. What are your overall thoughts/feelings on the situation?

Alicia: I was a guest at a convention where I was blatantly skipped over for filming by the company hired to film highlights and hall shots. The videographer even came up and spoke to me when I arrived, but made an effort to not include me in any videos. All the other cosplay guests were filmed, but I wasn’t. Not at all the entire weekend. At first, I was OUTRAGED, and I was just so upset that I had a meltdown in front of my fiance at my booth. But after thinking about it I wiped my tears and kept on going. The videographer didn’t deserve to grace MY presence anyway. That being said, this isn’t the first time a POC cosplayer has gotten skipped over by a photographer or mistreated. If the dialogue about equality doesn’t continue, nothing will change.

6. What is one thing other cosplayers don’t know about you?

Alicia: I’m a pastry Chef by day and a solo caterer on the weekends!

7. Why do you think other cosplayers are critical of POC cosplaying specific characters? Do you think it just boils down to racism or do you believe it to he more than that?

Alicia: Racism. Absolutely. It’s like we’re told we aren’t allowed to cosplay outside of our race because it’s not cannon. If we stuck by those “rules”, we could count the number of characters we look like on one hand. Cosplay who you want. Your skin color will NEVER hold you back from a cosplay!

8. If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self what would it be?

Alicia: Life is worth living. You are worth so much more than what you’re going through.

9. How do you feel about the otaku/cosplay community as a whole?

Alicia: I love this community. I know and love so many talented cosplayers all over the world who love their craft and want to help others love it as well. However, there are bad apples in every bunch that have to be ignored. Lately, the toxicity has been terrible. It has driven some of my favorite cosplayers away, and others who want to join the community are staying away because of the issues of blackface/drama. (Don’t EVER blackface….just don’t.)

10. Do you see yourself cosplaying in the foreseeable future or will you eventually do something else?

Alicia: I will cosplay until I can’t anymore.  I’ll be that 90 year old lady in a Princess Tiana dress at D23 (The official Disney fan club). Don’t give me any ideas!

You can find Alicia on Twitter, Facebook, and IG. Make sure to follow her and show her some love! Thank you for joining me once again on this (somewhat) chilly Friday morning. Oregon is becoming increasingly colder, but I am thrilled that summer is over. I was done with the hot weather before summer even started XD I know for some of you summer is just beginning. I wish you guys the best of luck! Hopefully you won’t melt and become a puddle of nothingness. I’ll catch you guys in my next post. MUAH! XOXO

Sometimes we just feel indifferent about anime. We didn’t think it was necessarily good nor bad, we just know it probably could have been better. As the title says I would call this “a swing and a miss” type of anime series. Initially you get hyped for these series based on their synopsis or trailer, but then they kinda fall flat after you get to the end.

Honestly, there aren’t too many anime that I completely and undoubtedly hate. Most of you should know by now that I am pretty easy going when it comes to anime/manga and I like to find (some) good in each series/work. I guess if anything I more of an indifferent type of watcher. Some people can explicitly pick out which anime series they absolutely love and which series they absolutely despise *cough cough* I’m looking at you Sword Art Online haters *cough cough* but for me I’m all about enjoying the anime as much as I can without jumping on the bandwagon with everyone else. Hence why I am still one of the very few people (might be the only person actually) who liked Glasslip. XD

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday will feature anime that I am still on the fence about. As I stated above these anime aren’t horrible, but in all retrospect they could have given us so much more.

1. Luck and Logic

^I enjoyed the premise of Luck and Logic, I just felt like it was still missing that extra summthin’ summthin’ though. Hina Logi was waaayyy more fun than the original!

2. Hundred

^Basically I feel the same way about Hundred. It had the potential to be far better than what it was. I felt like it was kind of a mess towards the end.

3. Ange Vierge

^I loved loved loved to concept of Ange Vierge and the girls were totes adorbs, but this series was just executed poorly.

4. Taboo Tattoo

^Started off incredibly strong, ended horribly.

5. Chivalry of a Failed Knight

^Don’t get me wrong! I like this series…I just think it acts too much like High School DXD, Shinmai Maou no Testament, and The Asterisk War.

6. Mayoiga (The Lost Village)

^I thought specific elements of this show were fantastic, I think the ending just got lost in translation with a lot of the viewers.

7. Brynhildr in the Darkness

^An interesting anime series to watch, just didn’t get that much out of it I guess.

8. Psychic Detective Yakumo

^I was rooting for this anime because I love mystery series, but it fell a little bit flat for me because it wasn’t creepy/thrilling enough. I was hoping it would lean more towards psychological mystery kind of like Dusk Maiden of Amnesia.

9. Chaos Dragon

^So many great characters in this series! The plot was wasted though.

10. Comet Lucifer

^Again…pretty fun and likable characters but the plot line was wasted.

Making this list makes me kinda feel bad. There were so many great opportunities to make these anime series top notch, but instead we got mediocre anime at best. But sometimes that’s the luck of the draw! You win some, you lose some. Every anime can’t be top notch quality. What anime series do you feel indifferent about? Do you have any that you like a little more or maybe like a little less but still think they are okay? Let me know all of your thoughts and comments down below in the comments section! I love getting to chat with you guys about anime series ❤
